Contains:Venus fly trap ‘Dionaea Muscipula’ - 10 seeds
The Venus fly trap ‘light red’ (Dionaea Muscipula) has an iconic appearance and is undoubtedly the most famous carnivorous plant. This species contains all kinds of stems (leaves) with small ‘mouths’, also called the closing trap. The scents of the leaf halves lure prey to feed on the plant. Insects land on the leaves due to the irresistible colours and scents. When the insect touches three hairs within 20 seconds, the trap snaps shut and the insect is digested. The insect's nutrients serve as food for the carnivorous plant. This efficient and impressive plant really shouldn't be missed in your living room.

How do I plant my carnivorous plant seeds?
Let's take a look together at the growing process of the carnivorous plant: Dionaea Muscipula. We have written out a roadmap for you to help you with this, Let's take a look at the process of growing venus fly trap seeds, step by step.
Step 1: Preparation
Before we start, let's make sure you have everything you need ready to go:
- Venus fly trap seeds from Carnivory.eu;
- A suitable growing container or pot;
- Our special carnivorous plant soil / or other carnivorous plant soil / or pure blonde peat;
- Reverse osmosis water, distilled water or rainwater
- A plastic bag or a transparent nursery cover
Step 2: Sowing
Make sure you fill your propagator or pot well with our carnivorous plant soil. Make sure the soil is well moist, but not soggy. Sprinkle the seeds evenly over the surface of the soil. The seeds are incredibly small, so be careful. Do not cover the seeds with sand but leave them on the surface (press them lightly into the soil).
Tip: write the date of sowing on a label.
Step 3: Moisture and protection
Now we are going to sprinkle the seeds with distilled water. Again, make sure the soil is absolutely not soggy. Now that you've planted the seeds, you'll want to place a bag or a grow cover over your pot. By doing this you create a microclimate, so to speak, which in turn helps seeds germinate faster.
Step 4: Be patient
It may sound obvious but we cannot stress it strongly enough. Growing carnivorous plants involves a tremendous amount of patience. Put the pot in a bright place. This is because the seeds need an awful lot of light. The best temperature for seed germination is between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. Keep providing the seeds with moist soil in between. You should see the first seedlings after about six to 12 weeks (depending on the variety).
Step 5: How do I care for the young plants?
When the seedlings are big enough, you can choose to carefully repot them into individual pots. For this, use the same carnivorous plant soil from Carnivory.eu. It is also important now to keep your plants moist and provide them with enough light and water.
Step 6: How do I look after the adult plants?
Once the Sarracenia is mature (often only after several years), it's best to treat it to a sunny spot. Most importantly, especially in summer, make sure you provide lots of sunlight and lots of water: after all, it is a bog plant. Also, keep using rainwater or distilled water at all times and make sure the soil is moist. You will now also see the plant quickly catching insects which in turn makes for a beautiful display.
>> You can repot the plant a year after sowing into a new pot with the right soil.
Tips and tricks for success
- Never use tap water: This applies to seeds, seedlings, young and adult plants. Carnivorous plants can be quite damaged by plain tap water. Use only distilled, reverse osmosis or rainwater.
- Avoid fertiliser and manure: A carnivorous plant always gets its nutrients from the insects it catches; this is how it works in nature. Adding fertilisers and nutrition to the plant will end up harming them more than it benefits them.
- Humidity: Make sure the humidity is high, especially during the germination phase. A grow hood can help with this.
- Light: The Venus fly trap likes a lot of direct sunlight. So it is best to place this species outside in the sun.
- Patience: There is nothing as important as patience when growing carnivorous plants. Be patient and enjoy the process.
