The Pitcher plant (Sarracenia) got its name from its beautiful shapes and colours. The Pitcher plant has cup shaped leaves and the Sarracenia Tess has beautiful long narrow tubes. At the edge of these tubes is nectar, which insects find irresistible. The impressive colours and the nectar (scents) of the Pitcher plant lure the insects into the trap. Once inside the large cups, the insect is unable to climb out due to barbs inside the cups. The cups then digest the insect and use the nutrients.
