Description Venus fly trap (The Zipp)
The Venus fly trap (Dionaea Muscipula), gets its name from its iconic appearance and red mouth. The plant contains a variety of stems with small 'mouths', also called the closing trap. The scents and colours of the leaf halves attract insects, such as flies, spiders and wasps. When the prey lands on the leaf and touches three hairs within 20 seconds, the mouth claps shut. The Venus fly trap is the only plant that can count. Thus, this carnivorous plant can count to 3. The Venus fly trap is not only a super efficient plant for the home, but also great fun for children to see how the plant works.
We have recently started offering this (protected) cultivar Venus fly trap "The Zipp"'. This cultivar features compact, red traps and is beautiful to look at.
IMPORTANT: this hybrid / cultivar is beautiful to look at, but does not work the same way as a 'normal' Venusflytrap. So there are no 'trigger hairs' visible and it is less functional (in catching insects) than a normal one. It'll, however, grow well with the proper care.
