The edges of these cups contain nectar, which insects find irresistible. The impressive colours and nectar (scents) of the Trumpet Cup plant lure the insects into the trap. Once inside the large cups, barbs within the cups make it impossible for the insect to climb out. The cups then digest the insect and use the nutrients.
